AI Selfie Generator Test (2026): Which of 8 Models Keeps Your Face

Yes — AI can make a realistic selfie of you from one photo you already have, and the best models in our test kept the face almost exactly. We gave each model the same photos and the same descriptions for five selfies, plus one selfie from a description alone, and measured every face against its photo with FaceNet. The models differ most in how closely they keep your face, and in whether the result still reads as a selfie.

Best faces and best value: GPT Image 2.5 and Seedream 5.0 Flash — all six passed every check, about 15 credits, face match 0.96 and 0.95.
Also all six passing every check: FLUX 3 and Nano Banana 2.1.
Watch out: Nano Banana Pro drew phones in the wrong place in three selfies, and kept faces loosest.

Usable counts the selfies that failed no check and Passed every check those that met all four in full; nothing is averaged. Face match compares the face in the selfie with the face in its photo (1.00 is identical; our different test people score 0.22 or lower against each other). The description-only selfie has no input face.

What each photo was checked for

Looks like the input. Each person (or pet) is recognisably the one in their input photo: face, hair, build.
Reads as a selfie. Phone-camera angle and framing, arm or mirror where it should be, an unedited look.
As described. Scene, clothes, pose and style follow the description.
Realistic. Passes as a photo: skin, hands, eyes and light have no obvious AI faults.

Each check is marked passed, partly or failed; no points are added up or averaged. A photo is usable when it fails no check, and the table counts the usable photos and the photos that passed every check. A request that ended without a photo counts as not usable. Every result is shown below, each with a link to its original file.

Face match is measured, not judged: FaceNet (InceptionResnetV1 trained on VGGFace2) turns each face into numbers, and we give the cosine similarity between the face in the result and the face in its input photo, person by person. 1.00 is the same face; our different input people score -0.22 to 0.22 against each other.

At a cafe table

Every model put the man at a cafe table with a latte. Nano Banana Pro had him stretch one arm and hold a phone up with the other; Seedream 5.0 Pro left out the outstretched arm.

A gym mirror selfie

All eight made a convincing mirror selfie; the GPT models, FLUX 3 and Seedream 5.0 Flash kept the face closest.

Every model put her in front of the Eiffel Tower with her arm toward the camera. Likeness was loosest for Nano Banana Pro, Seedream 5.0 Pro and GPT Image 2 here.

A morning kitchen

Every model kept the face, the glasses and the green cardigan. Nano Banana Pro again drew a hand holding a phone up.

From a description alone

No photo, only words. Every model made a believable person; Nano Banana Pro framed the selfie inside a phone camera screen.

More people and conditions

The six people above are adults photographed head-on in good light. To try other faces and harder photos, we made six more test people with an AI model: a woman around 70, a man in thick glasses, a woman in a knit hat, a man photographed from the side, a woman in a dim evening room, and a man against a bright window. On October 15, 2026, each one's photo went with the cafe selfie description above to the default model and to the two that rank best for value.

GPT Image 2.5 passed every check for all six people.
Seedream 5.0 Flash kept faces closest (0.93 on average), but once left out the outstretched arm (the woman in the hat) and once drew a phone in the hand (the man seen from the side).
Nano Banana 2.1 made all six usable; the man in glasses and the woman in dim light came out looser (face match 0.74 and 0.79).

The same request, three times

Every photo above is one try. To see how steady a model is, we sent two of these descriptions to PicYep's default model, Nano Banana 2.1, two more times each, with the same photos and settings, and checked every result the same way (October 15, 2026). All six tries were usable. The cafe selfie passed every check all three times; the gym mirror selfie kept the face less closely on the second and third tries (face match 0.79 and 0.71). In every case the first try was already usable.

A mirror selfie: any model except Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana Pro, which kept the face loosest there.

Is there an AI that can make a selfie of me without taking a new one?

Yes. From one existing photo, all eight AI models in our test made selfies in a cafe, a gym mirror, Paris, a beach at sunset and a kitchen. The best kept the face at 0.95 to 0.96 average face match, where 1.00 is the same face.
