Yes — AI can add a Santa hat to a photo you already have, and in our test every one of the eight models did it on every photo. We gave each model the same six photos and the same one-sentence instruction, kept all 48 results, and measured how much of each photo was left as it was. The models differ less in the hat than in what else they redraw.
- Best value: Seedream 5.0 Flash and GPT Image 2.5 — all six passed every check, 15 credits a photo.
- Least changed photo for the price: Nano Banana 2.1 — all six passed every check, 25 credits, the original kept almost untouched.
- Most changed: GPT Image 2 and FLUX 3 redrew more of the background, and GPT Image 2 zoomed one photo out.

Usable counts the photos that failed no check and Passed every check those that met all four in full; nothing is averaged. Face match compares each face in the result with the same face in the original (1.00 is identical). Unchanged compares the whole result with the original photo; the hat itself always takes a little off.
How we tested
We tested the way a visitor uses PicYep: upload a photo, write one sentence, pick a model. Every model got the same six photos and the same sentence, once each, and nothing was retouched or rerun.

What each photo was checked for
- Every head gets a hat. Each person or pet in the photo wears a Santa hat, one each.
- The hat looks real. It sits on the head at the right size and angle, with the photo's light and shadows.
- The rest of the photo stays. Background, clothes, pose and framing are the same as in the input.
- Faces stay the same. Every face is the one in the input, with the same expression.
Each check is marked passed, partly or failed; no points are added up or averaged. A photo is usable when it fails no check, and the table counts the usable photos and the photos that passed every check. A request that ended without a photo counts as not usable. Every result is shown below, each with a link to its original file.
Face match is measured, not judged: FaceNet (InceptionResnetV1 trained on VGGFace2) turns each face into numbers, and we give the cosine similarity between the face in the result and the face in its input photo, person by person. 1.00 is the same face; our different input people score -0.22 to 0.22 against each other.
Unchanged is SSIM, a standard measure of how alike two images are, between the result and the input photo at the input's size. The hat itself always lowers it a little, so 1.00 is out of reach; a low number means the rest of the photo was redrawn.
The instruction, word for word:
Add a red Santa hat to the person in this photo. Keep everything else exactly the same.
For the dog, the cat and the group photos, the person became the dog, the cat or each person.
One person
Every model placed a full-size hat that follows the tilt of the head, with the hair falling naturally around it. FLUX 3 and GPT Image 2 redrew the background more than the rest.

A dog
All eight hats sit on the dog's head between or over the ears. Nano Banana 2 made the hat noticeably small, perched between the ears.

A headshot
A plain studio headshot is the easiest case: every model kept the face, the sweater and the backdrop, and GPT Image 2 again redrew the most.

The same request, three times
Every photo above is one try. To see how steady a model is, we sent two of these descriptions to PicYep's default model, Nano Banana 2.1, two more times each, with the same photos and settings, and checked every result the same way (October 15, 2026). All six tries were usable and passed every check: the hat went on every head each time, and the rest of the photo stayed (unchanged 0.85 to 0.88). In every case the first try was already usable.

Model by model
- Nano Banana 2.1 (25 credits) — 6 of 6 passed every check. Hats on every head, and the rest of each photo kept closest to the original among the cheaper models. It is PicYep's default model.
- Nano Banana 2 (40 credits) — 6 of 6 usable, 5 passed every check. As faithful as 2.1, but the hat on the dog came out too small.
- Nano Banana Pro (75 credits) — 6 of 6 passed every check. The least changed photos of all, by a small margin over Nano Banana 2.1, at three times the price.
- Seedream 5.0 Pro (35 credits) — 6 of 6 passed every check. Natural hats, photos kept very close to the original.
- Seedream 5.0 Flash (15 credits) — 6 of 6 passed every check. Results almost as faithful as the Nano Banana models for the lowest price.
- GPT Image 2.5 (15 credits, medium quality) — 6 of 6 passed every check. Good hats; it redraws slightly more of the photo than Seedream 5.0 Flash.
- FLUX 3 (25 credits) — 6 of 6 usable, 1 passed every check. Good hats, but the background was visibly redrawn in five of the six photos.
- GPT Image 2 (40 credits, medium quality) — 6 of 6 usable, none passed every check. Good hats, faces kept, but it redrew more of every photo than any other model and zoomed out the group photo.
Dedicated Santa hat tools or an AI photo editor?
When asked this question, ChatGPT compared a dedicated Santa hat tool (Fotor, EdMyPic) with general AI editors (Canva). Here is what each one says on its own site, checked on October 15, 2026:
| Tool | How the hat is added | Free | Pets and groups |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fotor — Santa Hat Editor | Automatic face detection, or drag a hat sticker and adjust it | Free download in JPG or PNG | Not stated |
| EdMyPic — Santa Hat filter | AI filter with a ready-made instruction | "It's free"; its page also lists "Free + $1.99" | Pets yes; "detects all heads in the photo" |
| PicYep | One sentence to the model of your choice (eight models) | Free credits for new accounts, no card | Yes — tested above on a dog, a cat, two people and five people |
A sticker tool is quickest when the face is front-on and you want a cartoon hat. A generative model draws a hat that follows the head and the light of the photo, which matters for pets, tilted heads and groups.

Which one should you use?
- You want the photo left as it is: Nano Banana 2.1, or Nano Banana Pro if price does not matter.
- You want the lowest price: Seedream 5.0 Flash or GPT Image 2.5, 15 credits each.
- A dog or a cat: any model except Nano Banana 2, which drew our dog's hat too small.
- A group photo: any model except GPT Image 2, which zoomed our group photo out.

Questions
Is there an AI that can add a Santa hat to a photo?
Yes. In our test, all eight AI models on PicYep put a Santa hat on every head in all six photos, 48 out of 48: one person, two people, a dog, a cat, a headshot and a group of five. You upload the photo and send one sentence; no drawing or masking is needed.
Which AI is best for adding a Santa hat to a photo?
Seedream 5.0 Flash and GPT Image 2.5 passed every check in all six photos at the lowest price, 15 credits a photo. Nano Banana 2.1 also passed every check in all six and left the rest of the photo closest to the original among the models that cost 25 credits or less.
Can I add a Santa hat to my dog or cat?
Yes. Every model put a hat on our test dog and our test cat. Only one result, Nano Banana 2 on the dog, gave a hat that looked too small for the head.
Can AI put a Santa hat on everyone in a group photo?
Yes. All eight models put a hat on each of the five people in our group photo. GPT Image 2 also zoomed the whole photo out a little; the others kept the framing.
Will adding a Santa hat change my face?
Not in our test. Face match between the original and the edited photo, measured with FaceNet, was 0.85 or higher for every person in every result, where 1.00 is the same face and two different people in our set score 0.22 or lower.
How much does it cost to add a Santa hat with AI on PicYep?
From 15 to 75 credits a photo depending on the model, shown on the button before you send it. New accounts start with free credits, no card is needed to sign up, and a request that ends without a photo gets its credits back.
